NATION

  • CIA Government

  • "Once part of Spain's vast empire in the New World, Honduras became an independent nation in 1821. After two and a half decades of mostly military rule, a freely elected civilian government came to power in 1982. During the 1980s, Honduras proved a haven for anti-Sandinista contras fighting the Marxist Nicaraguan Government and an ally to Salvadoran Government forces fighting leftist guerrillas. The country was devastated by Hurricane Mitch in 1998, which killed about 5,600 people and caused approximately $2 billion in damage."

  • Honduras * Journal-1978 , from The Official Website of Arthur Blessitt

  • "I had a wonderful walk with the cross in the lovely of Honduras. The people were friendly and open to the message of Jesus and welcomed the cross.
I carried the cross along the Pan American Highway through San Lorenzo, Chinandega and on to Choluteca then into war torn Nicaragua.
Bob Baxter and Don Price and Arthur Blessitt and Mike Ooten Arthur and the cross
We stopped at Choluteca and drove to the capital, Tegucigalpa and there joined Leo Humphrey and a group with him from the United States. We had several days of glorious outreach and preaching in the streets of the city to thousands of people. Often there were many people weeping in the streets as we shared the message of Jesus and lifted up the cross.
Arthur Blessitt and the cross with Leo HumphreyMike Ooten, a dear friend from the U. S. was on the road with me. I had a four wheel drive SUV pulling a small camping trailer that we lived in. Mike would drive and I carried the cross. He would go ahead a few miles and find a place to park and wait for me. We had our food, drink and beds in the camper. This vehicle was our home on the road through Central America.
I was carrying the cross from Mexico City to South America.
    God bless Honduras.
    A pilgrim follower of Jesus,
    Arthur Blessitt
